Covid -19

Sketchy Muma began as me making sketches about my experience of motherhood. The truth is though, I enjoy drawing about all sorts of human relationships, and the universal emotions we all can feel at some point in our lives.

It has been impossible not to be affected by how radically our lives have changed during this current global pandemic and how suddenly we have been propelled into completely uncharted waters. I have been so moved by how much good there is in this world, if you care to look, and how so may people have responded to this crisis to care for their own families and those more vulnerable than themselves. From the obvious key workers, to the key workers that are not so obvious, to communities, to small businesses rooting for each other’s survival and to the individuals including yourself, all working towards the common good. However that is not to say we aren’t also dealing with a myriad of emotions rapidly changing from one minute to the next as there is so much uncertainty. We have no bench mark for dealing with a global pandemic, and I am inspired to draw about this unique time in our history as we forge onwards into the unknown.

“I am still your teacher”

I am so proud of my little girl’s school and how dedicated all the staff are to the children. I made this print for them to put up to represent the love and courage they show each day to the children and each other, coming together to get through such a challenging time.

“I trust in us”

I have been thinking so much lately of how different it must be to be pregnant and having a new baby right now, which is a time that can already be fuelled with anxiety. Sending so much love to the pregnant ladies, the ladies on maternity wards, the ladies in neonatal, and the ladies who feel totally overwhelmed and confused . To the ladies who are separated from those they love and really need right now, and to those who may have had a different outcome than they planned for. So much compassion to you all x
